Identify Target Markets and Match Keywords for Increased Web Visibility

As your company evolved its web presence did you have a clear picture of the market for your product? Or did you put up a web site and hope that the right people would somehow manage to find you? Did you develop your web presence around your potential customers? Or was it developed around your company and its products? It has become clear that a customer-focused web site that targets a distinct market offers you the greatest opportunity for growth. Perhaps it is time to re- evaluate your potential customer base.

The first step is to figure out what the target markets are for your product. You then need to focus your web visibility on attracting and keeping those visitors.

Your target market consists of the groups of people who are potential customers for your product. What is my target market? Begin by looking at your existing customers. Analyze their characteristics by observing their demographics, psychographic and behavioral differences. Do you notice different group characteristics? These groups are your market segments. These are the markets that you can target. You then customize your marketing efforts towards these groups or target markets.

It is a good idea to determine the priorities of your different target markets. Are there some markets that offer you more opportunities? Analyze the size and potential growth of each market. These should be in line with your own company objectives and resources. You may have to focus on one or two markets.

By now you should begin to develop a clear picture of your potential clients and your competition. From this you can plan your marketing strategies to maintain an advantage over your competitors. This should be done for each target market.

You should try to develop an in-depth understanding of these markets. What are your customer’s needs, their motivations and their interests both now and in the future? The marketing program for your particular target markets should be carefully thought out with this in mind. This is easier to do for smaller sized niche markets. One important goal would be to communicate the idea that you are the market leader to potential customers.

The main marketing communication vehicle for many companies is their web site. The goal is to develop a strong web visibility program which will attract and reach your target market. This is done through effective search engine rankings. Once you have attracted your audience your site must be effective in communicating with and retaining your customers.

An important aspect of your marketing communication will be your web site’s content and its focus on keywords and search terms used by your potential customers.

Keywords are very important. If you choose the wrong keywords you will miss your target market, and attract the wrong type of customer. You should not use keywords that you think are the right ones. You should know in advance that they are the right ones. When it comes to visitors you should be looking for quality not quantity. To find out what keywords to use you should undertake some research.

How do you choose keywords? Your keywords are generally phrases, not words. You should listen to your customers and how they describe your product. What are your industry buzz words? What keywords do your high ranking competitors use? Look at your server logs and determine what search terms people are using to find you. Use tools such as Wordtracker or Overture to determine alternatives.

Analyzing potential keywords will give you an understanding of which ones are highly competitive. This will help you to identify possible keywords that have been ignored by competitors and will offer a niche opportunity for you. Your ideal keywords will have low levels of competition. Your keywords should also have existing levels of searches. The higher the better. Low competition for keywords and high levels of searches will offer you the greatest opportunities. You should plan to avoid the highly competitive, generic, one word keywords that have many searches. You should also avoid keywords that have no or very few searches done on them. Plan to use only 2 to 4 keywords per page. Make sure you integrate these keywords intelligently into your written text.

Before you finalize your initial keyword selection you should find out where your competitors rank on the major search engines for the proposed keywords. The competitiveness of a specific keyword can be estimated using Google. Search for the keyword and look at: the total number of results returned, the number of incoming links to the top sites, and the Google page rank of the top sites. This will give you an understanding of how you stand against your competition.

Your goal should be to be ranked on the first page of results for your keywords. This is because most search engine users do not go past the first couple of pages of results during their searches.

There is so much research and analysis you can do relating to keywords and your target markets. And it is worth while as it is a way to stay ahead of your competition. It is not a one-off task but rather a work-in-progress. Keywords should be analyzed, maintained, and matched against your target market and competitors on a regular basis.

You should aim to have a comprehensive understanding of your market and of your competitors. By understanding the needs and challenges of your market, and what your competitors offer, you will then be able to identify niches that you can target. Use this to position your company as one of the few with in-depth expertise in those niche target markets. Build your website around that expertise to distinguish your company from your competitors. Aim to give the impression that you are the market leader for the niche.

By developing a customer focused web site, together with an effective web visibility program utilizing identified target markets and researched keywords which show up well in relevant search categories you will attract traffic to your site. And best of all this traffic will be made up of truly qualified prospects which will offer you the opportunity to develop the full potential of your online business.

Government Keeping Information on Marijuana and Cancer from Public

Senator Ted Kennedy had undergone a surgery for malignant glioma, a fatal type of brain tumor in 2008. Kennedy had managed to put a brave face after his surgery although he would still undergo at least 4 to 6 weeks of radiation therapy and repeated chemotherapy every eight weeks depending on his response.

On the other hand, supporters of medical marijuana claimed that there might be other alternatives for treatment of gliomas and some other cancers and that the government might know something about those alternatives. In a review of preclinical and clinical studies, which evaluated the potential link between smoking marijuana and cancer treatment had findings that the use of cannabinoids may be useful as anti-cancer agents. At least 30 separate trials as well as literature reviews had been focused on the potential therapeutic effect of smoking marijuana and cancer treatment.

Many people may not be familiar with such scientific researches; however, the government may be behind the “secrecy.” In 1974, an experiment that focused on the possible anti-cancer effects of smoking marijuana and cancer treatment was done at the Medical College of Virginia at the knowledge and directive of federal officials.

A report on the findings of the experiment was featured at the Washington Post newspaper, which stated that the primary psychoactive component of marijuana, THC, had slowed the growth of cancers in lungs and breasts. More so, the experiment had also indicated a slowed growth in a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, prolonging their lives by 36%. The preliminary findings on the link between smoking marijuana and cancer were published in 1975 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

It was only in the 1990s that the United States National Toxicology Program conducted a preclinical trial on the same study. The study was done secretly and cost $2 million. It had concluded that the laboratory rats and mice used, which were applied with high doses of THC over long periods, yielded greater protection against tumors compared to untreated controls.

On the other hand, in spite of the favorable findings on the link between marijuana and cancer treatment, the government had kept the results from the public until a draft copy was leaked to the AIDS Treatment News. The medical journal had then forwarded the findings to the national media. The United States government is yet to authorize an additional study since the National Toxicology trial was completed. The additional study should be able to examine the potential capability of marijuana to cure cancer through its potential anti-cancer properties. It is necessary to ask permission from the federal government before any clinical research can be done on smoking marijuana and cancer treatment since the drug is considered a schedule I controlled substance; thus, it has an illegal status.

…What the hell happened to me. Well, I was really overwhelmed by all the negativity over the blog these past few months and despite all of the kind words from those who supported me, it was definitely a difficult pill to swallow. Yes, it is my blog. Yes, I do want to share my opinions with people. And yes, the content here is based my experiences. Whether I’m eating here in Hawaii or somewhere around the world, does it really matter?

In any case, I have decided to do two things. The first, was to start a new site. I will be posting all of my out of town exploits there. If you happen across the site, say hello. I will definitely NOT be posting a link to the site here.

The second thing, is a major re-design and re-launch of Ono Kine Grindz — probably over the next couple of months. I am going to be moving the site and all of the existing content over to a hosted site (no more Typepad). This will probably affect my Google page rankings, but eh, I can start over, right? Besides, there has been an overwhelming amount of interest in this site over the last several months so I am kind of excited that people still want to hear what I have to say — even after all that has happened over the last 4 1/2 years.

Right now, I am in the design stage for the new site. If you have any ideas, please drop me a line.

Is Your Table Ready for Company?

With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s time to check and see if your table linens are ready for guests. If you find it’s time for a new tablecloth, here are some guidelines on how to buy one that is the right size for your table.

The traditional “drop” for a tablecloth (the amount that extends below the tabletop) is 12-14 inches. Measure the width and length of your table, then add (double the desired measurement of drop) to each dimension for the correct size cloth. For example, for the desired drop listed above, measure both length and width of your table and add 24 to 28 inches to both width and length for the proper size cloth.

Here are some dimensions you can use as a general guide:

Rectangular and oval tablecloths:
70″ x 90″ is for a table that seats 6
70″ x 108″ seats 8 -10
70″ x 126″ seats 10 -12
70″ x 144″ seats 12 – 14

When you’re done click “Next”. You will be taken to the next window that tells you everything is ready to install. If you filled in the destination folder correctly click “Next”. If you made an error simply click “Back” and correct it. It will install the files and a new window will pop up asking you which region you’re located in. Select the region you are in (or closest to, if yours isn’t listed). For instance, I select Europe since I’m in The Netherlands. Click “Next” to continue.

On the next window, you will be asked if you would like to participate in the mailing lists. You can ask questions and receive information on everything that has something to do with the SRCDS and the original HLDS. Be mindful, if you choose to use it you get like 10 e-mails a day. It’s a choice you’ll have to make. If you want to participate click “Mailing List Information”, if you don’t want to, click “Next”.

You will now be asked if you want to read the readme. Select or deselect it as you wish—I will explain everything you need to know about it. Click “Finish” to finish the installation. You should have the following files in the “Updater” folder now:

Now all is set to install the actual server! To begin installation, the update tool must be used to execute specific commands, as previously mentioned. These commands can be given by making a shortcut or a batch file. I will explain how to make a shortcut, since it’s the easiest and quickest way to do what you want to do.

Start by making a shortcut to HldsUpdateTool.exe. Right-click somewhere in the folder and go to New⇒Shortcut. In the window that pops up, click the “Browse” button and navigate to F:\SRCDS\Updater\HldsUpdateTool.exe (or whichever folder your tool is in) and double-click it.

The next thing to fill in is the name of the shortcut; I call it Install-Update since that is its function. Having done that, you can finish up the shortcut and go to the next step.

As mentioned before, the update tool needs commands to run. Right click the Install-Update shortcut and select “Properties”. If you’re not already on the “Shortcut” tab, click it in the new window. The commands will be added in the box called “Target”. Currently, it should read: “F:\SRCDS\updater\HldsUpdateTool.exe”. Commands will be added behind this line. Add the following commands behind the already-present text: -command update -game “Counter-Strike Source” -dir F:\SRCDS

-command update entry is to tell the program to install or update the files that you need.
-game “Counter-Strike Source” will tell the program to install the files for CS:Source.
-dir F:\SRCDS tells the program where to install the actual server.

Sugar Pie Bebe Diaper Totes are not only adorable, but actually extremely handy! I received one at my baby shower for baby number 2… after our first major blow out I decided I would change him on my bed… not such a good idea. So ever since then, I have used it every time. The other thing I love about it, is that with another toddler, sometimes a diaper bag is just to much to carry. 2010 American Gold Eagle Release Date

After a year of heavy demand, the United States Mint will begin offering the 2010 American Gold Eagle bullion coin with a slight delay. Typically, authorized purchasers are able to order the coins in late December for delivery in early January. This year orders won’t be accepted until January 19, 2010.

The reason for the delay is because the US Mint continued to produce the 2009-dated Gold Eagle bullion coins up until the end of the year, amidst the continuing high demand. This demand resulted in the fourth highest annual sales total of gold bullion in ounces.

Typically, production of coins bearing the following year’s date will begin by early December. This, in turn, allows the US Mint to accept orders earlier and begin delivery a few days into the new year.

The only gold bullion coin offered will be the one ounce 2010 Gold Eagle. The status of fractional weight offerings has not been provided. During 2009, the US Mint sold only the one ounce coins for the first eleven months of the year and offered the fractional Gold Eagles during December.

New FACTA Rules Take Effect on July 1, 2010

Businesses have until July 1, 2010 to comply with the new rules and guidelines under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (“FACTA”), which amended the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), adopted by the Federal Trade Commission nearly a year ago relating to information provided to credit reporting agencies. Many know FACTA as the statute that allows consumers to request and obtain a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion), or the Act that contains provisions to help reduce identity theft. These new guidelines are designed to increase the accuracy and integrity of the information that furnishers provide to credit reporting agencies. The rules, in turn, require furnishers to establish reasonable written policies and procedures that implement the guidelines. The policies and procedures that furnishers are required to establish will vary depending on the “nature, size, complexity, and scope of each furnisher’s activities.” 16 C.F.R. § 660.3(a).

The rules also provide consumers an additional avenue to challenge the accuracy of information used to generate their credit rating. Historically, consumers were encouraged to deal with the credit reporting agency about the accuracy of such information. Under the new FACTA rules, furnishers are now required, in most cases, to investigate disputes that are submitted directly to them by consumers regarding the accuracy of information that furnishers provided to a credit reporting agency.
